Invitation Alumni

October 29, 2017
Start: 15.30
Podium Mozaiëk, Amsterdam

The Omscholingsregeling exists already for a little more than three decades and more than 600 dancers knocked on its door for support by the program. Almost all of them made a successful career change and were able to find a new passion in life. It goes without saying that everyone involved with ODN is very proud of them. Their success underlines the importance of the program.

Curious to meet your former colleagues and hear from them directly? You will have that chance at the very first ODN alumni event that takes place on Sunday afternoon, October 29!

All dancers and particularly former participants of the Omscholingsregeling are welcome to join this event.

• Welcome by Paul Bronkhorst, executive director and since 1986 the driving force of the Omscholingsregeling. He looks back at more than three decades of omscholing.

• Testimony and book presentation
Aukje Bolle and Goran Turnšek will have an honest conversation about Goran’s transition. Like other dancers he had to choose a new path after the end of his dancing career. He left the dance field and chose a new life as a photographer. For his project Second Stage, he portrayed dancers who shared the same experience, making a career change. It resulted in an exhibition that was already shown in Maastricht, Den Haag and Amsterdam. At the alumni event we will proudly present the Second Stage book!

• a Panel focusing on the transition and building bridges:
Transition is more than retraining. It is about changing lifestyle, exploring new worlds, discovering new parts of your identity, learning new skills, nourishing experiences, maintaining networks, staying connected etc. etc.

The dance field is important to other industries on sustainable employability and healthy labor perspective. The labor market is changing continuously and workers have to adapt to these changing circumstances. Careers are not as predictable any more as they were. The numerous dancers who made a successful career change and the way of the Omscholingsregeling facilitated those changes set an example for other industries.

At the same time the question rises how the dance field can continue to benefit from the knowledge and experience that dancers have built up during their dancing. How to prevent that expertise gets lost when
dancers leave the dance community. Not only their experience as a dancer but also their new expertise can be of great relevance to the field of dance. How can or should the dance/art field benefit from the skills and knowhow from their former employees?

With among others : Gaby Allard (National Centre of Performing Arts); Barbara Suters (Board member ODN), Leo van Emden (Filmmaker) and Klaus Jürgens (Choreographer); Aukje Bolle (former director of Korzo) will moderate the discussion.

• Drinks and sharing memories in the foyer. Meet your former colleagues, take a picture together in the ‘ODN photo booth’ and get yourself a signed copy of the photobook Second Stage for a reduced price.
The exhibition Second Stage can be seen in the foyer. An opportunity for everyone who has not been able to see it yet!

Count me in!
All participants and former participants are more than welcome and the afternoon is free of charge. However we would appreciate it if you would send an e-mail to info@omscholingdansers.nl

The afternoon´s discussions and talks will be in English.
