Alumni Event ODN
Sunday, October 29 the first Alumni Event of the Omscholingsregeling took place, a successful afternoon that focused on personal testimonies from dancers about their transition and the significance of the Omscholingsregeling during that process.
The event was organised in conjunction with the finissage of Second Stage, the photo exhibition by retrained dancer Goran Turnšek, currently photographer. Second Stage portrays yesterday’s dancers in today’s life. In a frank conversation with Aukje Bolle, moderator of the event, Goran told how photographing dancers who all have their own unique transitioning story, has been important for him to find a new identity after his dancing career.
After the interview he presented the first copy of the book Second Stage, that contains the photos of his exhibition, to Gaby Allard, former dancer and at present director of the dance and theatre department of ArteZ.
During a panel discussion about transition and how to retain knowledge and experience of dancers it was obvious that the personal transition testimonies are truly inspiring. They set a great example as well to other sectors that are increasingly struggling with similar questions. The stories are also a boost for the younger generation of dancers, who’s focus is, understandably, often more on dancing than transition.
Yet another stage
After the official part of the event, there were drinks and bites. With a wink to Second Stage all present could have their pictures taken in a photo booth and have a tangible souvenir from this exciting afternoon.
This event revealed once more the important role that the Omscholingsregeling plays preserving the skills and abilities of dancers, no matter in or outside the field of dance. We hold on to the positive energy of the afternoon, it inspired us to emphasize these skills even more.
