LEAP Together: Career and Life Transitions in Dance and Sport
On November 11 and 12, 2016 the LEAP conference is held in Toronto Canada. LEAP stands for Leading Edge After Performance and unifies dance and sports. LEAP raises particular issues that both dancers and athletes have in common, including the necessary career switch.
Paul Bronkhorst, executive director of ODN and chairman of the International Organisation for the Transition of Professional Dancers is invited as a guest speaker. The conference is a collaboration between the Dancer Transition Resource Centre, the Canadian transition program, and the Canadian Sports Institute. In this ground-breaking conference the career and also life switch both dancers and athletes have to make is the main focus point. A multitude of stakeholders and specialists in the field share their knowledge. Dancers and top athletes tell their personal stories. Researchers and psychologists share knowledge about the impact of changing careers and how to ensure this process is a positive experience. Representatives of different transition programs worldwide will discuss impact, relevance and challenges they face. Paul Bronkhorst represents the Dutch Retraining Program for Dancers. For the last 30 years ODN has been playing a leading role in developing transition programs for Dancers worldwide.
